Abi Clarke
In the past,
i.e. in the beginning of 2020, comedians may be envisioned spending years
gigging up and down the UK as stand-up comedians, prior to getting invited to
appear on a television panel show, and later selling the arena tour. It's not
an easy task at present. One art form that can still be performed live is
comedy, however there will soon be no arena tour. One comedian from Bristol has
managed to connect with a global public through the use of social media
lockdown. Abi Clarke never set out to be an internet superstar. The 24-year-old
living in Hen bury, with her parents, began creating online videos "to
create a fan base of like-minded people who would appreciate my stand-up
comedy. "I performed a variety of gigs in the depths of Devon to males in
their 50s who were not so keen on my Love Island, Sims and Twilight references.
I then went online with the hopes of meeting other young women who really
related to me." Abi has since appeared at Lakota Gardens since restrictions
on lockdowns have eased but she still posts her videos to Instagram, Twitter
and Tik Tok (where she has recently hit 500,000 followers) Finding the
inspiration she needs from sources as diverse as her job in a café, a
conversation with a stranger or even the girl-group chat, and writing every
thought down on her phone.
